why i hate ‘links for YYYY-MM-DD’ posts

I find these ‘links for’ posts on people’s sites rather annoying. They are a list of that person’s recent links on del.icio.us. I imagine it’s only a subset of all recent ones, but that doesn’t make me dislike them less.

I dislike them for three reasons:

  1. Not only do I read some of these people’s sites, I also subscribe to their del.icio.us feeds. I end up getting the list twice.
  2. The formatting of these posts is difficult for me to read. All the tags are underlined and the tags of the previous item but up against the underlined heading of the next item. Granted, I could adjust NetNewsWire’s stylesheet to make the links less noticeable, but I wrote that stylesheet to be how it is for a reason.
  3. I feel it’s a duplication of information. If you want to provide that information to people, link to it on your site and let people search your del.icio.us bookmarks. Send out a little post informing all your readers that if you want to continue getting the bookmarks, subscribe to the feed directly from del.icio.us.

Maybe I’ll just write a script to filter out those posts.
